Fuxi (伏羲) and Nuwa (女娲)
Creator’s of humanity - Chinese legend -
Ancient origins -
Pan Gu created the Heavens and Earth from chaos - the cosmic egg gestated for 18,000 years, it is said - before the deity awoke vacating the shell that had held him for so long. The elements of light drifted up to form the Heavens, while the dark elements descended to form Earth. There he held the respective opposites between his arms and his legs - one giant pillar body. Until he became tired- his body metamorphosed - limbs becoming mountains, eye becomes Sun, the hairs on his body the stars, his blood the flowing waters, his teeth the metals and the minerals. His insides formed starry pearls, jade and precious gems. His bones became trees, flowers, foliage, grass. After Pan Gu’s passing arrived Nuwa who held vast and magical powers. She had the body of a woman and the tail of a snake. But she was sad and lonely all alone - and so…
Essential Unity
She decided she would fashion a creature in her own image to populate the planet and to share the pleasures. She set upon using clay to mold humanity from - digging yellow clay and mixing it with water. She had molded a clay boy in her own image - blowing gently on him she breathed life into the clay infusing him with life and vital energy. She made many more people in this same way, some of which became male - infused with yang qi - the male essence. The others with yin qi - the female essence. She began to realise it would take too much time to create enough people to constitute humanity, enough for all the land, and she had grown tired. Frustrated Nuwa used a willow branch to whip the clay in her annoyance - the spattered clay molded itself into human beings! Nuwa, after a great flood, became paired with Fu Xi, who is identified as her brother, a creator god. The spirits from above are said to have communicated with the pair that they were to be intended to be together for the good of humanity.
